Learning and development

CSE supports its employees along every step of their career.

Our goal is not only to attract top individuals from across Canada, but to retain that talent.

We believe in fostering an environment where employees thrive, developing and empowering our people, and promoting and supporting inspiring leadership.

We have a range of programs and opportunities to support our employees as they progress through their careers:

Early career training

From their first days at CSE, and over the course of their first three months, employees take part in our employee orientation program. The program offers a mixture of online courses, instructor-led courses, self-paced learning, and networking activities to equip new employees with everything they need to successfully launch their careers at CSE.

At CSE, we also support employees in pursuing longer-term training programs, like starting or completing a degree.

In some cases, CSE provides financial education assistance to help employees pursue continuing education.

In-house training

CSE offers in-house courses in cyber security, signals intelligence, and other specialized topics related to our work.

CSE also offers cyber security training to employees from across the Government of Canada through the Learning Hub at the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.

CSE employees have free access to more than 500 online courses on subjects such as:

  • management
  • leadership
  • information technology
  • workplace safety
  • operational security
  • languages

Career progression

With a team of more than 2,900 full-time employees, there is plenty of scope to move around within CSE.

We look to promote internal candidates whenever possible through open, fair, and transparent processes.

The high level of mobility across CSE creates frequent opportunities to move within teams for short-term assignments.

The work we do is so diverse that there are always new career paths to explore.
