VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.0a (hereafter referred to as VCNS v5.5.0a), from VMware, Inc., was the subject of a Common Criteria evaluation performed by the Common Criteria Evaluation Facility at CGI IT Security Evaluation & Test Facility The evaluation was completed in February 2014.
The evaluation of VCNS v5.5.0a determined that this Information Technology (IT) product can be trusted, to Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4 augmented with ALC_FLR.2, to conform to the requirements of the associated security target.
VCNS v5.5.0a is comprised of a suite of networking and security virtual appliances built for VMware vSphere integration. VMware vCenter Server provides centralized management of VMware’s ESXi. VMware ESXi and vCenter Server 3.5, 4.0, 4.1, and 5.0 have been Common Criteria evaluated. ESXi is a user-installable or OEM-embedded virtualization layer that runs directly on industry standard x86-compatible hardware, providing an environment where multiple virtual machines can be hosted on one physical server.
The scope of this evaluation is defined by the security target, which identifies assumptions made during the evaluation, the intended environment for the VCNS v5.5.0a, the IT security requirements to be met, and the level of confidence (evaluation assurance level) to which it is asserted that the VCNS v5.5.0a satisfies its IT security requirements.
Consumers are advised to carefully review the certification report to gain an understanding of the security functionality, the evaluated configuration, and the intended operating environment for VCNS v5.5.0a.
