Phases of the Project

Phase 1

Pod 1 of the Edward Drake building was completed in November 2011 as an interim solution to ease work-space constraints.

Project Details

Overall Cost: $61.5M (includes acquisition of land, design and construction, equipment and fit-up)
Construction Contract: Employing the traditional Crown-construct method of procurement, the Design-Build contract for Pod 1 was awarded to EllisDon.
Estimated Job Opportunities: The overall project generated approximately 200 direct employment opportunities.
Building Size: Approximately 6,000 square meters
Special Features: Pod 1 is a two-storey building, consisting of office and special-purpose spaces that has achieved LEED Gold Accreditation.


Contract Award: 15 August 2008
Construction Start Date: Spring 2010
Construction Completion Date: Fall 2011

Phase 2

Construction of the larger part of the Edward Drake building began in February 2011

Project Details

Construction Cost: Estimated $880M capital investment.
Contract: Awarded to Plenary Properties
Estimated Job Opportunities: Generated approximately 5,000 direct employment opportunities throughout the construction period.
Building Size: Approximately 72,000 square meters.
Special Features: The Edward Drake building is a state-of-the-art, high security facility, with a LEED Gold Accreditation.
