About the Institute

The Tutte Institute for Mathematics and Computing (TIMC) is a world-class, high-tech research institute that is the first of its kind in Canada. It conducts classified research in fundamental mathematics and computer science, with a research focus in two distinct areas:
- Cryptology
- Knowledge Discovery/Data Mining

The Institute works alongside and receive priorities from the Joint Research Office (JRO). It is a program within Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), and it works in support of CSEC's mission and vision of safeguarding Canada's security through information superiority.
The TIMC has four objectives:
- Objective 1: Research
Address and provide leading edge solutions to the most important mathematical and computational challenges facing the Canadian Cryptologic Program and its partners. - Objective 2: Recruitment
Attract and engage Canada's top researchers to work in support of Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). - Objective 3: Partnership Development
Strive to obtain the highest possible return on Canada's research partnerships within the allied communications research community. - Objective 4: Knowledge Centre
Create and maintain a world leading communications research knowledge centre.
