Program Overview

Security in Information System Operation is a broad-based IT security Program of Study (PoS) developed for systems adminstrators and IT Security practitioners. Government of Canada employees are eligible for enrolment. Based on a series of courses outlined below, the Program offers participants a comprehensive examination of essential processess and procedures needed to maintain system safeguards and respond to IT Security incidents. Upon completion of the required courses, participants will receive a Security in Information System Operation Program of Study Diploma attesting to their attainment of a satisfactory level of proficiency in the field.

Requirements

Core courses in the program are Unclassified and no security clearance is required with the exception of one course (350) where a Level II security clearance is required.
To get the full value from the Program, courses should be taken in the suggested sequence.

Prior Learning

If you have previously taken courses that are now part of the Security in Information System Operation Program and, if you passed the required knowledge tests within the prescribed period, you will receive full credit.

Course-related Materials

Candidates will receive a student manual in booklet form at the beginning of each course and may also be given handouts, references, glossaries, sample quiz and test questions and other supplementary materials. Candidates are strongly advised to retain such materials as they might be used during the writing of the final exam. Some materials might also be available from the course Web page.

Tests and Final Exam

When a candidate has finished all courses in the Program of Study, the IT Security Learning Centre will administer the final exam. The completed final exam must be returned to the IT Security Learning Centre for grading. Upon successful completion of the exam, the IT Security Learning Centre will award a diploma. Tests handed out during the course are usually not scored and are not retained for use as a percentage of the final exam.
