Security in Information System Design (SISD)

All Government of Canada (GC) departments transmitting, storing or processing sensitive government information must be protected by systems that have been developed/acquired and evaluated according to recognized standards and implemented in accordance with GC policies and practices. By the end of this Program of Study (PoS), all participants should be able to advise senior security staff, project managers or program managers on what Information Technology (IT) security activities and deliverables are required for all phases of the Information System Security Implementation Process (ISSIP). This will be based upon application of GC policies, processes and procedures, security architecture models and frameworks, and best practices.

Security in Information System Management (SISM)

All Government of Canada (GC) departments are responsible for protecting government information and assets throughout their life-cycles. As part of a coordinated departmental security program, departments are obliged to establish and manage a departmental Information Technology (IT) security program. By the end of this Program of Study (PoS), all participants should be able to advise senior security staff, project managers or program managers on what activities should be involved with establishment and management of an IT security program. This will be based upon a sound knowledge of GC policy, directives, standards, guidance as well as GC IT security management concepts, principles and best practices.

Security in Information System Operation (SISO)

Monitoring Information Technology (IT) systems, maintaining system integrity throughout its lifetime, managing system changes and incident handling, are all critical elements of effective IT security operations. By the end of this Program of Study (PoS), participants should be able to manage IT system controls, support incident handling activities and assess IT security posture as part of the overall departmental IT security program. This will be based upon a fundamental knowledge of Government of Canada (GC) IT security principles, processes, procedures and best practices.

Developing ITS Management Skills

To properly manage Communications Security (COMSEC) material and to improve personal Information Technology Security (ITS) skills, individuals must take advantage of the lessons learned during years of policy development and personal experiences. This series of courses introduces students to Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) policy requirements and proper procedures required to perform certain tasks within the ITS/COMSEC environment. Employees need some of these courses to qualify for positions to which they may be appointed.

Communications Security (COMSEC)

The Communications Security (COMSEC) Program of Study (PoS) offers Government of Canada (GC) personnel a comprehensive understanding of this subset of Information Technology (IT) Security. The protection of information transmitted by electrical means, and of certain electronic emissions associated with sensitive (classified or protected) information, involves the use of specialized technical, operational and physical security measures. Based on a series of courses which span 4 days, this PoS allows for the participant to gain a thorough understanding of IT Security and moreover, the means and procedures for safeguarding classified information in all its states.
