Wireless Network Security

Introduction

Wireless devices broadcast information over radio waves or other wireless communication methods. The waves are broadcast in all directions and any receivers within range can receive the information.

Overview

Wireless network or devices are widely used as they offer mobility; relatively low hardware cost (less cabling, routers…) and satisfies consumers need for hyper connectivity.

With the increase in advantages and benefits come new threats and risks. Without the traditional means to protect the information, constant monitoring is required and the overall security level has to be raised accordingly.

Proper mitigation strategies must be implemented to safeguard the information and to ensure it cannot be read and understood by any party within the broadcast area.

Security

To prevent signal broadcast theft and attack the information has to be, at least, encrypted and secured using CSEC approved encryption as detailed in CSG-02\G.

Through constant monitoring of broadcast signal (logs and warnings) IT security specialists may be able to identify and stop potentials threats and attacks.
