The External Communications Management System (ECMS) Version 4.1, was the subject of a Common Criteria evaluation performed by the Common Criteria Evaluation Facility at DOMUS IT Security Laboratories, located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The evaluation was completed on 12 August 2004.
The evaluation of the ECMS determined that this Information Technology (IT) product can be trusted, to an assurance level of EAL 3, to conform to the requirements of the associated security target.
The ECMS Version 4.1, together with the Internal Communications Management System (ICMS) Version 3.7.1.0, form the Communications Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) which manages all internal and external communications equipment on shipboard communications systems.
The ECMS is a software application that runs on a CCMS workstation. It manages radio equipment such as HF transmitters, HF receivers, V/UHF transceivers and modems, and radio services supported by this equipment offering voice and data communication services.
The evaluated configuration comprises the ECMS Version 4.1 running on an Intel® PC using the software Microsoft® Windows NT4® Service Pack 6a, JDKTM 1.2.2, EXCEED®, and INGRES® II.
The scope of this evaluation is defined by the security target, which identifies assumptions made during the evaluation, the intended environment for the ECMS, the IT security requirements to be met, and the level of confidence (evaluation assurance level) to which it is asserted that the ECMS satisfies its IT security requirements. Consumers are advised to verify that their operating environment is consistent with the security target.
