The Fortinet FortiGateTM -50A, 60, 100A, 200A, 300A, 800, 3000, 3600, 5001 Antivirus Firewalls and FortiOSTM 2.80 was the subject of a Common Criteria evaluation performed by the Common Criteria Evaluation Facility at Electronic Warfare Associates-Canada, Ltd., located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The evaluation was completed on 14 February 2005.
The evaluation of the FortiGateTM series determined that this Information Technology (IT) product can be trusted, to an assurance level of EAL 4 augmented with ALC_FLR.3, to conform to the requirements of the associated security target.
The FortiGateTM series spans the full range of network environments, from the small office and home office (SOHO) to enterprise and service provider. They detect and eliminate damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, inappropriate Web content, etc. in real-time without degrading network performance. In addition to providing application-level protection, the FortiGateTM series deliver a full range of network-level services including firewall, Virtual Private Network (VPN), intrusion prevention, Antivirus, content filtering, antispam and traffic shaping in dedicated, easily managed platforms. The FortiGateTM series provides a NAT/route mode that applies security features between two or more different networks (for example, between a private network and the Internet) and a transparent mode that applies security features at any point in a network.
Each FortiGateTM unit consists of a hardware appliance and the custom firewall software FortiOSTM. A separate administrator console is used to perform system administration. The firewall can operate either alone or as part of a firewall cluster in order to provide high availability of services. The models offered in the FortiGateTM series share common software. The different models in the series provide for increased performance and additional protected ports.
The evaluated configurations are:
The scope of this evaluation is defined by the security target, which identifies assumptions made during the evaluation, the intended environment for the FortiGateTM series, the IT security requirements to be met, and the level of confidence (evaluation assurance level) to which it is asserted that the FortiGateTM series satisfies its IT security requirements. Consumers are advised to verify that their operating environment is consistent with the security target.
