EMC Smarts Service Assurance Management (SAM) Suite and Internet Protocol (IP) Management Suite 6.5.1 (hereafter referred to as Smarts Suite) was the subject of a Common Criteria evaluation performed by the Common Criteria Evaluation Facility at EWA-Canada, located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The evaluation was completed in June 2007.
The evaluation of EMC Smarts Suite determined that this Information Technology (IT) product can be trusted, to an assurance level of EAL 2, to conform to the requirements of the associated security target.
Smarts Suite is a suite of software products which monitor IT networks. It can map networks, monitor the availability and performance of network nodes, and show the business implications of any failures. Smarts Suite consolidates network events and presents them at a suitable level of abstraction to allow administrators to prioritize problems according to business impact and helps administrators to distinguish the root cause of a problem from the collateral impacts.
Smarts Suite helps system administrators cope with the flood of raw events which may be generated by a problem in the IT infrastructure. Smarts Suite uses a normalized event reporting structure, the EMC Common Information Model (ECIM), which identifies and consolidates duplicated events.
The scope of this evaluation is defined by the security target, which identifies assumptions made during the evaluation, the intended environment for the Smarts Suite, the IT security requirements to be met, and the level of confidence (evaluation assurance level) to which it is asserted that the Smarts Suite satisfies its IT security requirements.
Consumers are advised to carefully review the certification report to gain an understanding of the security functionality, the evaluated configuration, and the intended operating environment for Smarts Suite.
